My
Story: How It Is Like To Grow Up In An Orphanage
Source

My
Mom, Dad and twin sister committed suicide in 1992 . I was saved by my extended
family only to get abandoned later. I was disowned not because two of the
wealthiest families in the city couldn’t raise me but because I was a curse for
their reputation. My mom and dad were not married, I was an illegitimate child.Fast
forward few months, one fine day I woke up at a children’s home. *Boom* I am an
orphan.
So how is it like to grow up as an orphan!
There
was very little caring. Every time I tried to replace my family members with
the attenders, I failed terribly. Later, when I was around 5 years, I realized
that family can never be replaced. We always got old and torn stuff to wear and
play. No one ever donates fresh clothes or toys to orphaned children. Till 6
years of age I had never worn a dress of my size, always oversized. We used to
long for birthday celebrations of rich kids so that we got a ladoo, if lucky
enough a cup of chocolate ice cream, too. In less than 4 years of age we all
learned to take dump, get cleaned up, take bath and get dressed properly
because unlike other kids no one else would do it for us. Whenever the
attenders looked at you, you have to be either studying or praying or else you
would get beaten up. I loved to have long hair, but irrespective of the gender
we all got short haircuts.
We
didn’t get our birthdays celebrated. I didn’t know when my birthdate was, most
of us didn’t know. Once we were all taken to watch the Tamil movie ‘Muthu’.
Charmed by Rajinikanth everyone wanted to celebrate their birthdays on his
birthday. The worst part of the day came when the sun was gone. Not even a single
day passed without hysterical late night screaming. I don’t remember much
growing up as an orphan as I got adopted by a loving family when I was 6 years
old. I got a new name, new family, new identity and an awesome new life.
Life
as an orphan was horrible! That, too, as an illegitimate orphan child is
hideous. In front of you people say that you are a chosen kid, at the back they
call you a bastard. What hurts the most is the realization that you are not
wanted by your own family. It’s hard when your life is shaped totally by the
circumstances in which you have no say. I often wonder how an innocent kid
could give so much distress to a family that it chooses to place the child in
the cruel world with some strangers and move on with life as if nothing happened.
Still no regrets, I am really thankful for that dark period as it has made me
realize the value of love, care, trust and family. It has made me stronger than
most of the girls of my age.
I
have a note for guys. When my ex dumped me, one of his main concerns was I
didn’t had a good family life upbringing. There was another incidence where my
friend’s family rejected a marriage proposal just because the girl’s parents
were no more even though she was beautiful, educated and earning well.
When
it comes to romantic relationships and marriage there is a type casting that
girls with no good family life upbringing have trust issues, they may not
mingle with family, they will break the family, they are cold hearted etc.
Trust
me, in contrast living on their own has only made them generous, strong, kind,
extremely loving, adaptable and compassionate. They take relationships
seriously and they won’t break your family as all they wait for is a loving
family.

care for orphans not because we are rescuers, but because we are the rescued” –

Social
Media
Social
media is an online media in which the users can easily participate, share, and
create the content of blog, social networking, and the virtual world. Blog and
social networking is the form of social media that mostly used by the community
around the world.
Social
media, with its various features which are provided, certainly brings positive
impacts for the users. On the other hand, social media can also cause negative
impacts if it is not wisely used, especially for children and teenagers. In
this case, it really needs attention from parents and teachers to monitor the
children and teenagers from the negative impact of social media. For the worst,
we have to restrict them to use social media.
There
are many negative impacts of social media for children and teenagers. First,
children and teenagers become lazy to communicate in real world. Their
understanding of the language is disturbed. If a child is too much
communicating in the virtual world, then their knowledge about the details of
communicating in real life, like body language and tone of voice, will be
declined.
Second,
social networking sites will make children and teenagers more self-interested.
They are not conscious of the environment around them, because most of their
time is spent on the internet. This can cause children to be less empathetic in
the real world.
Third,
for children and teenagers, there is no the rules of spelling and grammar in
social networking. This will make them more difficult to distinguish between
communicating on social networking sites and the real world. This clearly would
affect their writing and speaking skills at school.
Fourth,
the assumption that internet is identical with pornography is not wrong. With
its ability of information dissemination owned by the internet, pornography is
rampant. To anticipate it, the producers of browser complete their program with
the ability to choose a home page that can be accessed. On the internet, there
are many images of pornography and violence that can be the impulse to someone
to do criminal acts.
Fifth,
social networking site is fertile land for the predators to commit a crime. We
will never know if someone new whom our children just know on the internet,
uses the real identity or not. Fraud is rampant in every field. The internet is
not excluded from an impostor’s attack. The best ways is not to heed or confirm
any information you get from the information provider.
Last,
credit card is the most used way in the internet world of the internet. The
cyber criminals often commit in this field. By the open system, the criminals
are able to detect the online transaction (using a credit card) and record the
code of cards that are used. Then, they use the data they get for their business
of wickedness.
In
conclusion, social media has many negative impacts to children and teenagers.
They have to be restricted in using social media due to many negative impacts
of it. That is not good yet for them since they cannot decide which one is good
or bad.
NEIGHBORHOOD
Country
Life v/s City Life
City
living and country living have a wide range of differences and similarities. Every day new people enter each
and call it their home. When living in the
city, you are an on-the-go kind of person and enjoy the world at a fast rhythm.
In contrast, a country living style is
slow and calm. Today we make important
decisions when deciding where to live. This is not a decision that is always easy to make. There
are many things that you need to take into
consideration. Like do you want your neighbors to be close, do you like to
listen to the noise and traffic of the
city? Don’t forget to consider your job, drive time and pets if you have or want them. For many
people, this is one of the many important decisions they will ever have to make. While
living in the city, you have numerous things to do: the opportunities are endless. On any given night, you can walk
around and enjoy the wonders of the city: the sights and the sounds take your breath
away at all times. Nothing is more entertaining than walking on the pavement
with other pedestrians, reading billboards or checking road signs, and watching
cars pour from all corners and stop at traffic lights.
The
city also has many different places to go to. Nice and expensive shops attract
many tourists. There are a lot of restaurants too where you can get a casual or
formal dinner; any way to enjoy yourself. If you are a city-dweller, you are
always around much excitement. As far as I’m concerned, living in the city
gives people a special feeling of superiority because of the nice shops,
centers and modern architecture.
Although the city seems to have a lot of great
things, the country can offer as much satisfaction as well. The country is a
marvelous place to live in. It offers a very relaxing feeling, and it is filled
with magnificent views and scenery. Rural towns offer more open space than
cities and aren’t overcrowded.
The
country can also maybe help you become a more independent and activeperson. You
can buy a small piece of land, plough it and put some seeds in order to grow your own vegetables. This way you collect
your own crops, and eat and live in a
very healthy way. In addition, being in the countryside makes you more of an outdoor person often enjoying the voices and
wild places of nature.
Not
everyone is suited to the city life and not everyone has the desire to live permanently in the countryside. It is a matter
of perspective and personal point of view.
AIR
POLLUTION
Every
day both industrial and domestic chimneys emit vast amounts of dirt and harmful
gases. The exhaust fumes from thousands of car engines add to this huge volume
of filth, Sulphur dioxide, produced mainly by the burning of coal and oil,
combines with the moisture of the air to form sulphuric acid. This eats away
stone, brick and even metal. Doctors reason that if it can do this, it must
damage the lungs of people who breathe it, especially over a period of many
years.
Usually
the effects of air pollution are not instantly noticeable. Occasionally,
though,, there have been catastrophic “smogs”. (The word smog is a combination
of smoke and fog). One of these occurred in the town of Donora, Pennsylvania,
in the U.S.A. The valley in which the town lies traps the smoke and fumes from
the steelworks and chemical plants that fill it.
One
day, in October 1948, unusual weather conditions prevented the smog from
lifting by the afternoon, as it normally did. Instead, it hung over the town
for three days. By the end of the third day, nearly 6000 people were ill. More
than 60 percent of those aged 65 and over were seriously ill. 20 people died.
At last a heavy rain shower cleared the smog.
One
of the chief causes of air pollution in many cities is the internal combustion
engine. Cars, lorries, and buses give out the gas called carbon monoxide, which
in high concentrations can kill a person in a confined space. Cars also throw
into the air fine particles of rubber and asphalt from their tires and the
road, and particles of asbestos from their brake-linings. These can cause
damage to the lungs when breathed in.
Another
source of pollution is nuclear power station which produce a great amount of
poisonous radio-active waste. This waste must be sealed up and buried beneath
the ground or seabed so carefully that there is no danger of leakage. Some
scientists are very worried that we are not being careful enough with nuclear
waste. It may not all be buried safely. Also, they fear there may be a serious
accident at a nuclear power station, releasing deadly radiation into the air.
FARMING
HYDROPONICS
Hydroponics
is the term used to describe the several ways in which plants can be raised
without soil. These methods, also known generally as soilles gardening include
raising plants in containers filled with water or any of other nonsoil mediums
– including gravel, sand vermiculite and other more exotic medium, such as
crushed rock or bricks, and shards of cinder blocks.
There
are several excellent reasons for replacing soil with a sterilize medium.
Soil-borne pests and diseases are immediately elimated, as weeds are. And the
labour involved is reduced.
More
important, raising plants in a nonsoil medium will allow you to grow more
plants in limited amount of space. Food crops will mature more rapidly and
produce greater yields. Water and fertilizer are conserved, since they can be
reused. In addition hydroponics allow you to exert greater control over your
plants, to insure more uniform results.
All
of this is possible by the relation of a plant with it’s growing medium. It
isn’t soil that plants need-it’s the reserves of nutrients and moisture
contained in the soil, as well as the support the soil renders the plant. Any
growing medium will give adequate support.
The
methods of hydroponics gardening developed over the past forty-five years can
be divided into categories defined by the medium in which the plant are grown.
In water culture, the plants are grow only in water, or in a water and nutrient
solution. Sand culture calls for raising, plants in sterile sand, into which a
water and nutrient solution is pumped. Aggregate culture replaces the sand,
instead of using one of the materials such as gravel or vermiculite, and
retaining the method of pumping a water and nutrient solution into the material.
Finally, there are number of experimental or unorthodox techniques.
Hydroponics
units have been used to replace the conventional benches in a green house, and
soil-borne pests and diseases are avoided.
THE
HOSPITAL
about hospital, coock county hospital If you
look at the front of a large, modern hospital, you may notice that there are
two separate entrances. One of these is for patients in need of immediate
treatment – it is the emergency entrance. Here ambulance arc to be seen pulling
up at any hour of the day or night. The other entrance is the main entrance of
the hospital.
On
the ground floor; inside the main entrance there arc probably a reception area
and waiting room, and also an office. On the floors above and below are the
numerous other departments. On a lower floor may be the laundry and the
kitchen. On another floor will be a maternity section for mothers and their
babies. Their hospital, so that babies do not catch other people’s illnesses,
The
rooms for other patients are usually on the higher floors. There are small room
for just one patient slightly larger room for two, three or four patients, and
larger rooms called wards, in which as many as 40 or 50 patient may lie in-rows
of beds. On. other floors are the operating rooms, called operating theatres,
and special departments such as the radiography department, where x-rays are
taken and developed.
In
the laboratories, special tests are carried out on body tissues and fluids to
find out the nature of a patient’s disease. The pharmacy supplies the drug to
treat patients. Near to the-operating theatres is the blood bank to store blood
for transfusions. Here too is the sterilizing department, where all the
operating theatres and in the wards are cleaned and made free from germs.
A
very large staff is needed to run a hospital efficiently It consist of people
who work together in teams. The hospital administrators organize the day-to-day
working of the hospital. The medical staff, including the doctors and nurses,
work directly with the patients. So too do such people as the physiotherapists,
anesthetists and radiographers. Grouped together, these people are sometimes
known as paramedical workers’,
ART
AND CULTURE
My
Favorite Acoustic Guitar
When
I was in Junior High School, my mother bought me an acoustic guitar. It was my
first guitar. I learned some basic guitar chord with it. It accompanied me
since I was a beginner who know nothing about guitar, until I managed to
improve my skill to a better level. Even though I have another guitar right
now, but this one is still my favorite. The sound produced by it is still as
clear as it was. its classic and simple design is just irreplaceable.
My
favorite acoustic guitar is mainly made of mahogany wood. It is a steel-string
type of acoustic guitar. Three different colour were used to cover the major
parts of the guitar. The colour of the front side is peach with wooden fiber
pattern which intentionally designed to be clearly visible with our eye. The
colour of the back side is black, and the colour of the edges is dark brown.
The neck of the guitar was painted in black, but the headstock is dark brown.
The tuning pegs or tuning keys are made of white plastic and is attached to the
headstock, three on the top side and three on the bottom side. There is a part
called "nut" placed between the neck and the headstock. It is made of
white plastic too. The fret of the guitar is mainly made of copper. There is
only one sound hole on my guitar and it is located at the end part of the neck.
The bridge, where the end part of the strings were attached, is made of wood
and is painted in black.
